NFL: Chargers accuse McDaniels of trash talk
The Chargers were all talking after today's 32-3 victory about Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels telling the Chargers linebackers, "We own you" as he passed them on the field during pregame warmups. "I'm not surprised," Shaun Phillips said. "He's a little cocky (rear end). It's all good, all fun and games. We didn't look too much into it. As a coach, I hope he has that mind-set. But to say he owns us? I mean, you beat us one time. What has he really done in this league? He had a team 6-0 and now he's looking up at us from second place." McDaniels said after the game as he headed to his car that the Chargers "talked to me first."

MLB: Source: Damon won't take pay cut
Johnny Damon's preference is to remain with the Yankees, and while he has made that wish well-known, sources close to the veteran say he isn't about to give the Bombers a big discount to stay in pinstripes. A source close to Damon said that the outfielder believes his statistics over the past two years have been good enough that unless the market crumbles entirely like it did last winter for Bobby Abreu, he doesn't feel he should take a pay cut.

NBA: Arenas: Dissension among Wizards
A few minutes after Brendan Haywood blamed hubris, not lack of effort or execution, for the Wizards' underachievement, Gilbert Arenas said "hidden agendas" are causing the team to splinter and proclaimed that if the team continues to slide, he might have to rescue it before the season is lost.

NHL: Leafs-Hawks pondering trade?
The buzz around the Air Canada Centre Saturday night was not entirely centred on the Leafs snapping a five-game losing streak with a shootout win over Washington. There was also a strong sense there could be some changes coming soon - a sense helped by the presence in the press box of Chicago Blackhawks assistant GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. The Hawks are mulling new contracts for three of their potential free agents - Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Duncan Keith. The club, like any other, has cap considerations, and economics dictate the Hawks can't sign all three without shedding at least one of their existing, big dollar contracts. Leafs GM Brian Burke is said to be seeking draft picks to compensate for the three high-round picks surrendered in the Phil Kessel trade with Boston.

NCAAF: Should Notre Dame join Big Ten?
Maybe it's time Notre Dame thinks about a monumental change. One that goes deeper than the football coach. One that lets the Irish keep their national-championship options open but gives them other options as well. Maybe it's time Notre Dame revisited joining the Big Ten. At Notre Dame, having no conference pretty much puts the Irish on a jittery tightrope from the opening kickoff every season. The faculty senate strongly believed joining the Big Ten would enhance ND as an academic institution. Which is reason enough. But joining a league also might improve life in the athletic department.

Soccer: Beckham may own Montreal team
David Beckham has an option to own a future 20th team in Major League Soccer, the North American league's commissioner said Sunday. Speaking to reporters at halftime in the title-deciding MLS Cup final, which Beckham's L.A. Galaxy lost to Real Salt Lake on penalties, Garber dismissed speculation the England midfielder might be involved in a possible Montreal franchise.

MMA: Johnson claims Koscheck faked injury
Saturday night's "Fight Of The Night" between Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson at UFC 106 didn't lack stoppages. The fight was paused twice due to eye pokes, and once for an illegal knee to a downed Koscheck from Johnson. However, Johnson is claiming that he actually hit Koscheck's arm, and that Koscheck may have acted hurt because he was gassing.

Auto Racing: Evernham wants new team
Former car owner and crew chief, Ray Evernham, said prior to Sunday's season-ending Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway that he hopes to get a series of legal issues resolved in the coming weeks that may pave the way for a return in some capacity with a race team. Evernham has made no secret of his desire to rid himself of his minority stake in RPM, which previously was known as Gillett Evernham Motorsports -- and before that was simply Evernham Motorsports, in which he was founder and majority owner.

Golf: Harrington to tinker at Titleist
Padraig Harrington will complete his season's work in the Tiger Woods-promoted Chevron championship in California in a fortnight's time which is a non-US Tour event but one which carries world ranking points. While Harrington will be doing his best to win that out-of-season money fest, the visit to the west coast has a secondary mission. Harirngton will be bringing his coach Bob Torrance with him on the trip, which will also incorporate visits to the Titleist Performance Institute where the player will be put through a series of tests aimed at developing his game for next season's assault on the majors.

Tennis: Ivanovic reunites with former coach
Ana Ivanovic has spent recent weeks recharging and has turned to a familiar face -- coach Sven Groeneveld -- to restart her quest to return to the top 10. Coming off a disappointing season in which she finished with a 24-13 record, including a 3-4 mark in her last seven matches, Ivanovic has reunited with Groeneveld to prepare for the 2010 season. "I feel rested and like I am about to re-start everything. The most important thing is to stay injury free and to train in the right way," Ivanovic told the Serbian newspaper Sportski Zurnal. "I will be working again with Sven and it gives me confidence to think how well we worked together during the off-season two years ago." The 22-year-old Ivanovic reached only one final, falling to Vera Zvonareva in the Indian Wells final in March. She failed to reach a quarterfinal since Indian Wells, a streak of nine consecutive tournaments.
