Should Notre Dame join Big Ten?
Maybe it's time Notre Dame thinks about a monumental change. One that goes deeper than the football coach. One that lets the Irish keep their national-championship options open but gives them other options as well. Maybe it's time Notre Dame revisited joining the Big Ten. At Notre Dame, having no conference pretty much puts the Irish on a jittery tightrope from the opening kickoff every season. The faculty senate strongly believed joining the Big Ten would enhance ND as an academic institution. Which is reason enough. But joining a league also might improve life in the athletic department.

Who will coach Hilltoppers?
Chicago Bears wide receivers coach Darryl Drake is believed to be in the mix for the head coaching job that opened up at Western Kentucky when the school announced two weeks ago that David Elson would not return. Drake played for the Hilltoppers and began his coaching career there in 1983. He's made stops in the college ranks at Georgia, Baylor and Texas, becoming an associate head coach for the Longhorns before Smith hired him as an original member of his staff in 2004. Others in the mix for the job reportedly include Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino, Stanford running backs coach Willie Taggart, another former Western Kentucky player, and Alabama offensive coordinator Joe McElwain. Petrino is the brother of Arkansas coach and former Falcons coach Bobby Petrino.
